World War II Matchbox Cover

A rare find indeed! A World War II-era celluloid and tin matchbox cover made for the British Royal Army Service Corps (RASC). It is marked and clearly shows signs of age but it can be dated 1936-1952 because of the cipher for King George VI on the front. These metal sliding cases were covered with a printed celluloid wrap. Soldiers used them to protect standard cardboard matchboxes from moisture, wear and accidental ignition while out in the field. A wonderful collectors piece.
