Vintage Maypole Cheese Wooden Box

I have two of these lovely vintage storage boxes. The Maypole Dairy Co. Ltd., was a prominent British dairy chain known for its ornate shopfronts and large-scale production in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The branding on these boxes specifies "Empire Pasteurised Cheddar Cheese," indicating the contents were part of the trade from British Empire territories. Used for transporting and possibly displaying the cheese in their shops. The company was a major force in British retail history, at one point being the largest margarine producer in Britain before its final shops closed in 1970. Today, the brand name is owned by Morrisons. These boxes are, therefore, highly collectible. Measuring 12ins x 4.25ins x 3.5ins. Of course, being vintage, they are tough and ready but still make great storage and display pieces.
