Heavy Salt Glazed Pitcher
If you like jugs and want one that’s a bit different, then this salt glazed pitcher may be just the ticket. In the traditional grey clay with the handpainted cobalt blue pattern it is very distinctive. Likely German, from the Westerwald region, and used for serving Apfelwein; the hard apple cider. Historically, these pitchers were known as ‘Bembel’. Throwing rock salt into the kiln at peak temperature creates a chemical reaction, resulting in its classic, durable, and orange-peel-textured grey surface. It’s all very traditional and so interesting. Measures 8.25ins tall and is a substantial piece.
