Antique Sorting Office Pigeon Holes

What a rare find! I wasn’t absolutely certain what it was until I did my research at home. Traditionally used by the Royal Mail or local post offices to sort mail by geographical districts and specific route. You can see the areas marked above each hole; such as the codes for East London postal districts. Lower shelves mark destinations in the Midlands and North West of England, such as Leek, Manchester, and Liverpool. Then there are Mail Classes & Special Handling. A fascinating piece of history and made of Oak. There are holes where it has been attached to the wall in the Sorting Office. It does need support to use freestanding. Measures 21ins x 21.5ins x 3.75ins. Please note that letters were considerably smaller than modern post! Great for displays and storage.
