Mounted Hovis Advertisement Poster
A vintage advertisement mounted on hard board for the iconic Hovis brand. Clearly showing its Royal Warrant to HM The Queen and particularly pointing out the Macclesfield connection, where the flour mills were using a legendary technique to separate wheat germ from the flour. Named in 1890 in a national competition and won by Herbert Grime, suggesting ‘Hovis’ from the Latin ‘Hominis Vis’ meaning ‘the strength of man’. He won the princely sum of £25! There are two holes drilled at each side where it was once attached to either a wall or metal sign. Measures 23.5ins x 16.75ins. In vintage condition.
