Wooden Two Tier Holder

I’m struggling to discover the origin of this wooden holder. When I bought it, I was informed it is from an old chemical factory but they didn’t further enlighten me! Nevertheless, I think it’s a great piece of old storage with two tiers and holes suitable for eggs, cotton reels, tea lights, shells and oddments  it has plenty of staining and signs of wear and still has the green baize in some of the holders. What would you use it for? Measures 12ins x 4.75ins x 2ins.
